"Music is a manifestation of the human spirit, similar to language. Its greatest practitioners have conveyed to mankind things not possible to say in any other language. If we do not want these things to remain dead treasures, we must do our utmost to make the greatest possible number of people understand their idiom."
"Let us take our children seriously! Everything else follows from this...only the best is good enough for a child."
Both are quotes from Zoltan Kodaly who was a famous music teacher.
I grew up a few miles from Blacksburg in Riner. I moved to Indiana part-way through my junior year of high school and graduated from Batesville High School.
I have a B.A. from Virginia Tech in Music and a M.S. from Radford University in Educational Leadership. I began teaching in 1989
I have two awesome sons! Taylor is 21 and is a senior at Radford University and is studying to one day be a lawyer who helps the environment. He is learning how to speak Mandarin which he hopes will help him in his job. He has a scholarship to study in China for a month after he graduates. Taylor has worked at 622 Restaurant since he was 16 and he sings in a band for fun.
Asher is 17 and is a senior at Blacksburg High School. He is still deciding where he wants to go to college, but he also wants to be a lawyer one day. He works at the North Main Auto Spa. He sings in the BHS Madrigal Choir. Asher loves musical theatre. He likes to watch musicals and be in them. He's played some fun characters such as Linus (Charlie Brown's friend) Prince Eric in Little Mermaid, and Aladdin!
I have a dog whose whole name is Tuxedo Mac, but we call him Tux for short. He got his name because he is black with white paws and around his neck like someone looks when they are wearing a tuxedo! We got him from the pound so he is a mixed breed, part Border Collie, part German Shephard, and part Black Lab. He likes to herd us around like a Border Collie herds the sheep!
I love musical theatre! Besides watching lots of shows, I have also been an actor and director for many productions. One very fun role was when I played the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. One very hard role was when I was M'Lynn in Steel Magnolias. My favorite show to direct was You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
I do lots of things for my church which takes much of my spare time, but in a good way.
I love words. Reading them, writing them, and doing puzzles with them!
