Education:  Virginia Tech

Hello! I am raising redheads along with my husband, Phil. :^) Elise is 13 and in the 8th grade. Ben is 11 and a fifth grader here at Harding Avenue. As a family, we love to travel, camp, play games, and watch Young Sheldon. I also enjoy cooking, reading, sleeping and being with friends. I love teaching and have teaching experience at all grade levels from first through fifth grade. HAE is a wonderful place to teach because of my awesome coworkers. I strongly believe in meeting children where they are and helping to move them along on their educational journey. My students are so much fun and I want to help them learn to be kind citizens of our community and world.

Education: Radford University - B.S Elementary Education and M.S.  Literacy Education

I am Harding Avenue's current resident cat lady and loving it! I love to be outside, read, hang out with my cat, family, and friends. I grew up in Roanoke and my family still lives there. I went to Radford and just finished up my masters in the Summer of 2018! I love living in Blacksburg and cheering on the Hokies!!

My favorite thing about teaching is teaching reading. I love to see the kids get excited about books, characters and to see the light bulb go off when they get it!
My favorite thing about HAE is that we are an open school. The community that it builds with staff is something that can not be found in other places.

Education:  Virginia Tech - Bachelor of Arts in Communication, University of Virginia, Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction

Welcome to First Grade! I am excited about getting to know you and your child. I have great expectations for the upcoming year. My goal this year is to help your child become enthusiastic about learning. I plan to present the curriculum in a variety of ways to ensure that the needs of each student are met.
To tell you a little about myself, I have lived nearly all of my life here in the New River Valley.  When I was two years old, my parents and I moved from Winchester, Virginia, to Christiansburg, where we lived from 1984-1989.  I attended school at Christiansburg Primary School where I completed kindergarten, first grade, and part of second grade.  My parents, a younger sister, and I then moved to Newport where I spent the rest of my years growing up.  I graduated from Giles High School in 2000.  I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Elementary Education from the University of Virginia.  I am licensed to teach PreK-6 grade, and I have completed my endorsement in Gifted Education.  Today, I reside in Christiansburg where I have lived since 2005.  I enjoy attending Virginia Tech sporting events, swimming at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, traveling, scrapbooking, and spending time in West Virginia with my family and friends.  I also love math and enjoy reading. My favorite book character is Amelia Bedelia!
I am excited about working with your child this year at Harding Avenue Elementary.  If you have any questions or need to reach me at any time, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at ameliatuckwiller@mcps.org or call me at school 540-951-5732.
